On June 4 and 5, 2024, the 3rd consortium meeting of our Horizon Europe project "BalticSeaH2" took place in Tampere (Finland). The consortium of over 40 partners from 9 countries met to keep up to date on all work packages, discuss the social acceptance of hydrogen projects, help shape a model for the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy and define future tasks and results of the project.
The consortium meeting started in the morning with news from the specialist groups. The coordinators for "Risk and Safety Management" and "Monitoring Mechanisms and Timelines" Ira, Kim and Jatta gave an update on the status of their respective working groups. Valley coordinator Heli also reported on the status of the development of the planned hydrogen valley. After a joint, one-and-a-half-hour "Just Energy Workshop", the afternoon was spent discussing specific aspects of the individual work packages in group workshops.
The day before, on June 3, the BalticSeaH2 consortium visited the P2X Solutions plant, a 20 MW electrolyzer that is about to be commissioned. The first Finnish production plant for hydrogen and synthetic fuels (e-methane, e-methanol and e-ammonia) is pioneering hydrogen and power-to-X production in Finland and will start producing hydrogen in a few months. P2X is also planning to build a hydrogen filling station network for hydrogen-powered mobility. The company is aiming to expand its electrolysis capacity to 1 GW by 2031.
