As part of the Interreg South Baltic funding framework, IWEN received funding for the 4th call for seed money project proposals for the period from May to August 2023. The task was to form an international consortium and prepare an application for a core project.
The application for the core project was approved in spring 2024 and the Interreg South Baltic project “DecarbonDistrictHeatingSystem” was launched in July 2024 with a consortium of eight partners from five countries. The project will run until June 2027 and aims to promote the decarbonization of district heating systems and facilitate the transition to sustainable and low-carbon solutions. By integrating renewable energy sources, optimizing energy efficiency, using waste heat from industrial processes and incorporating energy storage technologies, the aim is to significantly reduce carbon emissions. Pilot projects in several municipalities will demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of sustainable district heating solutions.
