We are looking for students who are interested in developing, building, and experimentally investigating vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) for the wind tunnel.
- Development and construction of a small wind tunnel model (DxH 0.4x0.4m) with rigid blades by the end of WS 26/27
- Development and construction of a larger wind tunnel model (DxH 1x1m) with blade angle control by the end of WS 27/28
The Interreg project is designed as a competition. In each of the four participating countries—Poland, Lithuania, Sweden, and Germany—three teams of three participants each will start with the first part of the project.
In spring 2027, the models of all teams will be measured in a wind tunnel in Poland. The best team from each country will then proceed to the second phase. The project budget covers all building materials and tools, as well as a small financial bonus for all participants who have reached the second part of the project.
Depending on the designs chosen, tasks will arise in the fields of fluid mechanics, construction, calculation, manufacturing technology, lightweight construction, mechatronics, computer science, and other specialist areas.
The German teams are supervised by us, the IWEN Energy Institute gGmbH in Rostock-Warnemünde. We support you in registering for the project and, if possible, in cooperation with your universities, in designing topics for bachelor's, master's, or doctoral theses.
Applications are now being accepted until March 15, 2026, at the latest.
